POSITION SUMMARY
The Assistant/Senior Assistant Director of Admission is a mid-level admission professional responsible for recruiting and selecting a class of entering first-year students that fulfills a range of enrollment goals. The primary focus of this position is to work collaboratively with the Senior Associate Director of Admission & Coordinator of Strategic Partnerships on the development and implementation of initiatives targeted at the enrollment of historically underrepresented students at Grinnell. This includes expanding recruitment of students affiliated with community-based organization partners and recruiting students into the Laurel Scholarship & Mentorship program. This position will also recruit and help select recipients for the Presidential Prize for Civic Engagement, a full-tuition scholarship aimed at students distinguished for their commitment to community engagement who are often from families that have been historically excluded from higher education.
In consultation with the Senior Associate Director of Admission, this position is expected to take initiative and think critically about effective recruitment strategy. The Assistant/SR Assistant Director of Admission must be able to articulate the benefits of a liberal arts education, especially for students who have been historically excluded from higher education. In addition to recruiting for these diversity-related programs, this position will maintain a recruitment territory.
They will also be responsible for reading first-year admission applications through a holistic reading process and will serve as a voting member of the admission selection committee. This position is expected to be able to execute responsibilities with limited supervision and is expected to model professionalism to early-career admission officers. This position is eligible for remote or hybrid work.
