Sports Venues

Between Grinnell College, Grinnell School District, and the Grinnell Athletic & Recreation Complex, Grinnell can accommodate even the largest of sports tournaments. Athletic facilities include swimming, soccer, baseball, softball, basketball, volleyball, and track venues.

Athletic Buildings

For sports practices and physical activites, Grinnell College is pleased to offer our athletic buildings. The wide open spaces may be used for vendor fairs and other events by special arrangement.

Darby Gymnasium in the Athletic and Fitness Center is the largest indoor facility on Grinnell's Campus. A traditional gymnasium with retractable bleacher seating, it can be used for special sporting events, practices, or events involving large numbers of people. The Auxiliary Gym in the same building may also be used for practices and other events of that nature. Special arrangements may be made for use of the fitness center.

An indoor track, indoor gym spaces, pool, and other spaces may also be available.

The community has several other althletic buildings suitable for large events:

Grinnell Athletic & Recreation Center (GARC) is a 22,000 sq ft athletic facilitiy available for rent for a variety of purposes. The building includes three indoor basketball courts with surrounding walking and jogging track, full locker rooms and a vending area. Ahrens Family Center is also available for rent, with an indoor children's pool, gymnasium and kitchen. Contact Grinnell Recreation Department at 641-236-2620 or recreation@grinnelliowa.gov for more rental information regarding renting the Family Center.

Athletic Fields and Outdoor Spaces

Need a soccer field? Grinnell has three! Our fields are known for their high quality, and we welcome inquiries for use of the fields by sports camps and other athletic activities. Other fields may be available with special permission.

Other outdoor spaces throughout campus are great places for picnics, gatherings, and informal outdoor games like Ultimate Frisbee, and more. Consider beautiful Central Campus or one of our building courtyards for your outdoor wedding!
