Director of the Mathematics Lab

Job Summary Grinnell College is seeking a talented and versatile mathematics and statistics educator to serve as the Director of the Mathematics Laboratory, a full-time, 9-month continuing position. The Grinnell College Math Lab provides support to students in mathematics and statistics classes through both peer and professional tutoring, mentoring, and classes. The successful Director will be able to work both independently and in close collaboration with faculty in a variety of departments, particularly Mathematics and Statistics, on support of individual students and broader curricular development. The Director will also work directly and creatively with other academic support professionals to identify and intervene with students at risk of academic failure.
Responsibilities: The Director is responsible for coordination and supervision of all aspects of the Mathematics Laboratory. Responsibilities include direct tutoring of students in introductory level mathematics and statistics courses; hiring, training and supervision of student tutors and mentors for these courses; and oversight of the Mathematics Laboratory spaces and equipment. The Director will be expected to be in regular contact with faculty teaching these courses, and to collaborate with other on-campus academic resource centers, such as the Science Learning Center. It is expected that the Director will have academic credentials that allow designation as Lecturer, and the Director will offer auxiliary for-credit courses (currently Math Lab 100) for students needing extra work in mathematics.
Minimum Qualifications A bachelor’s degree in Mathematics or a closely related field required; a masters degree strongly preferred. At least one year experience teaching or tutoring mathematics, with demonstrated skills in teaching algebra, calculus and/or statistics to beginning students of college level mathematics. In letters of application, candidates should discuss their qualifications for teaching mathematics and statistics in an undergraduate, liberal-arts environment that emphasizes close student-faculty interaction and values diversity.

Director, Careers in Education Professions Program

The Grinnell Careers in Education Professions Program Director will collaborate with the Education Department and the Career Development Office to provide advice and serve as the principal resource for a select group of students and for alumni considering and planning careers in education, including in teaching, school counseling, educational research, policy, administration, and other education professions. This program will help to elevate and promote PK-12 education as a lifelong career for Grinnell graduates. The Program Director will develop, implement, and manage a variety of services and programs and also counsel and advise students and alumni about related shadowing opportunities, volunteer opportunities, practica, internships, full-time jobs, and gap-year experiences. This position is gift funded for three years, with the possibility for renewal.
Minimum Qualifications A bachelor’s and advanced degree is required. A minimum of five years experience in public school teaching and/or administration (5-12). Understanding of best practices in teacher preparation. Understanding of how PK-12 schools are organized and function. Excellent advising and career counseling skills with ability to understand diverse students’ needs and concerns. Understanding of the education professions job market and employment trends, and the ability to teach career exploration and job search processes to students and alumni. Evidence of successfully developing and implementing projects and programs. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Collaborative stance when working with internal and external constituents. Strong written and oral presentation and problem solving skills. Significant knowledge of trends in public and private education, graduate programs in education and teaching, and entry-level opportunities in education professions.
Success working both independently and in cross-functional teams.
Ability to communicate the value of a small, private liberal arts college in preparing licensed teachers and graduates interested in education-related careers. Ability to establish productive collaborations with schools and teachers. Ability to travel periodically to engage with community and employer partners, alumni, and parents. Willingness and ability to work occasional evenings and weekends. Advanced skills in MS Word and Excel.

and problem resolution for these systems. Manages the licensing and contract process and maintains licenses and contracts.

closely with other library staff in collection development, systems, acquisitions, cataloging and public services. Provides all
services for the benefit of the campus community.
Minimum Qualifications Bachelors Degree and three years or more of relevant experience
